The plate contains a membrane impregnated with fatty acid, cholesterol, and ceramides to mimic skin epidermal lipids. A small sample flows by a combination microscope and particle sizer which gives you a picture and data on every particle measured. A comprehensive automated pattern recognition software enables rapid and automatic characterization of different particle types contained in heterogeneous samples.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Eleven &#8211; Fifteen.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>KES Kato Tech Co. Ltd. (keskato.co.jp)<\/strong> sells a broad variety of lab performance testing equipment.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Compact hair tensile tester.<\/strong> This was used by Unilever Japan for promoting its Lux product line.<\/li>\n<li><strong>KES-F7<\/strong> is a small, lightweight instrument for measuring heat transfer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>HFT-04S<\/strong> is a portable tester for measuring the surface roughness of an object.<\/li>\n<li><strong>HFT-03C<\/strong> is a portable compression tester that may have application for skin testing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>KES-SE<\/strong> friction tester measures surface smoothness and roughness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Sixteen.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>The Vasco (Cordouan Technologies<\/strong>) is a portable particle size analyzer based on dynamic light scattering that can measure particles from 1nm to 6 microns. It can also measure concentrated dispersions containing up to 40% solids.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Seventeen.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Detail\/5964\/205229\/Rheolaser?st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Rheolaser Lab<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Suppliers\/5964\/Formulaction-Inc\/search?sug=1&amp;st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Formulaction<\/a>)<\/strong> is a novel microrheology-based instrument that measures the visco-elastic properties of materials through the movement of particles due to thermal energy (Brownian motion). Microrheology can provide microscopic change structure, which can be used to predict stability. The unit can also measure up to 6 samples at a time and can do multiple measures on a sample over time, since the measurement is non-contact \/ nondestructive.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Eighteen.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Detail\/5964\/205178\/Turbiscan-Classic-MA-2000?st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Turboscan Classic MA 2000<\/a>\u00a0(Formulaction)<\/strong> is an instrument that measures the near IR backscatter of dispersions, which can be used to predict stability. Changes in back scatter across a sample from top to bottom can be indicative of coalescence, creaming, sedimentation, or flocculation.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Nineteen &amp; Twenty.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Readco Kurimot<\/strong>o has developed several interesting lab processing aids.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The RK Labmaster<\/strong> is a dry powder processing system that claims to reduce mixing time by 50% or more. It also has the ability to add liquids up to 20% by weight of the total batch while mixing. Previously, George was a Senior Chemist and Manager in the area of skin care product development, as well as the Director of Exploratory Formulation for Charles of the Ritz Group. During this time, George received the President\u2019s Cup Award for outstanding business contribution and developed numerous marketed skin care products under the Bain de Soleil, Jean Nate, Yves Saint Laurent and Charles of the Ritz Brands. George is a current member of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists and is on the scientific advisory board for Cosmetics &amp; Toiletries Magazine. He is a frequent guest lecturer for numerous key global suppliers, as well as for local and national SCC meetings. George is an avid tennis player and follower of the sport. He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio. Before being appointed a Victor Miles Research Fellow, he also served as Associate Director of Exploratory Formulation for skin care product development. While at Procter &amp; Gamble, George was one of the top inventors, with 354 granted and filed global patents (201 U.S. patents). He helped develop many of the core platform technologies used in skin care today with numerous products commercialized under the Olay, Bain de Soleil, Clearasil, Noxzema and SK2 brands. Previously, George was a Senior Chemist and Manager in the area of skin care product development, as well as the Director of Exploratory Formulation for Charles of the Ritz Group. During this time, George received the President\u2019s Cup Award for outstanding business contribution and developed numerous marketed skin care products under the Bain de Soleil, Jean Nate, Yves Saint Laurent and Charles of the Ritz Brands. George is a current member of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists and is on the scientific advisory board for Cosmetics &amp; Toiletries Magazine. He is a frequent guest lecturer for numerous key global suppliers, as well as for local and national SCC meetings. George is an avid tennis player and follower of the sport.
