{"id":10965,"date":"2020-09-16T09:52:34","date_gmt":"2020-09-16T15:52:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/knowledge\/?p=10965"},"modified":"2024-05-29T09:45:25","modified_gmt":"2024-05-29T15:45:25","slug":"pc-webinar-polycarbamide-technology-for-dtm-coatings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ulprospector.ul.com\/10965\/pc-webinar-polycarbamide-technology-for-dtm-coatings\/","title":{"rendered":"New polycarbamide technology for Direct-to-Metal coatings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/profile#emailpreferences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4917 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ulprospector.ul.com\/media\/2016\/04\/button.png\" alt=\"button\" width=\"418\" height=\"36\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ulprospector.ul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/button.png 418w, https:\/\/ulprospector.ul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/button-300x26.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 418px) 100vw, 418px\" \/><\/a> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9608 size-medium alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/ulprospector.ul.com\/media\/2020\/09\/evonik_amicure-webinar_300x281.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Recorded on October 22, 2020<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Presented by Evonik<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Atmospheric corrosivity categories are based on risk for corrosion and ranked from C1 (very low) to C5 (very high). \u00a0C3 environmental conditions are defined as industrial and urban atmospheres with moderate sulfur dioxide contamination levels, or onshore areas of low salinity (ISO 12944).<\/p>\n<p>Direct-to-Metal coatings (DTM) provide both decorative as well as protective properties to the metal to which it is applied in these C3 moderate corrosive environments.\u00a0 Direct-to-Metal (DTM) coatings technology is gaining market acceptance as both shop and field applied systems due to its ease of application, reduced time, and increased productivity benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Two-part polyurethane DTM coatings are formulated using aliphatic polyisocyanates and polyester or acrylic polyols as they provide acceptable weathering performance in outdoor applications.\u00a0 Both polyester and polyacrylic polyol tend to be viscous and therefore require solvent, which contributes high levels of volatile organic compounds (VOC) to the coating formulations and often results in slower cure, poor flexibility and compromised corrosion protection.<\/p>\n<p>DTM formulators are now taking advantage of new polycarbamide technology which provides excellent corrosion protection and enhanced productivity through faster cure rates and reduced formulation complexity. The new polycarbamide technology offers excellent adhesion to difficult metal substrates like galvanized, cold and hot rolled steel and improved coating flexibility and very low VOC\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>In this presentation we will review the chemistry and application properties of polycarbamide technology in DTM, and topcoat formulations. The application properties of two new polycarbamides <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/Coatings\/Detail\/34214\/724356\/Amicure-IC166-Curing-Agent?st=31&amp;uid=##userID##\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amicure<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> IC-166<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/Coatings\/Detail\/34214\/1463946\/Amicure-IC-186-Curing-Agent?st=31&amp;uid=##userID##\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amicure<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> IC-186<\/a> products will be reviewed in DTM and topcoat formulations.<\/p>\n<h4><a
