One of the first things you need to consider is the source. Is a natural or vegan philosophy important to your brand? There are fortunately loads of choices that are natural, vegan friendly or even synthetic, if this is not an issue, but they all work differently. The next consideration is size (molecular weight) and delivery system. A lot of people think the smaller the molecular weight, the deeper it penetrates\u2026 right? Wrong. It is not only the molecular weight but also your delivery system that matters. Sometimes you don’t need the protein or collagen to penetrate that deeply anyway to get the desired result. Higher molecular weight materials that adsorb to the skin or hair can be just as effective in some applications where film-forming or moisture protection is the preferred performance.<\/p>\n

We often hear people say they don’t work in wash-off products, right? Wrong again! There are many materials that show great substantivity and adsorption even at low inputs over repeated wash-off applications. In other words, choose the right grade of material, and you’ll get fantastic results even in wash-off products. We’ve even read that they shouldn’t be charged, otherwise they won’t work\u2026 wrong again! Some hydrolyzed proteins actually work better when they have been charged because of their added performance benefits.<\/p>\n
