\nEcological awareness, lifestyle changes and curb appeal are driving the switch to surface finishes that preserve, but also emulate the beauty of nature in both naturally occurring and artificial substrates. Coatings can enhance substrates with performance attributes like soft touch, deep matte, anti-fingerprint or scratch resistance, on top of imparting aesthetic features. For these reasons, a coating\u2019s finish plays an integral part in the commercial value of the final product. Those drivers are responsible for the increasing interest in high performance ultra-low gloss finishes, which have historically been challenging to achieve. This trend is perceived across segments and applications ranging from furniture and flooring to even gel nails. Different solutions are coexisting in the market with coating formulators using matting agents or applicators using embossing techniques to create surface structure impacting light reflection. Radiation curable resins have been widely associated with the ability to generate high performance levels and achieve high gloss surfaces. With the emerging need for matte finishes, allnex dedicated different efforts to enlarge its offering for ultra-low gloss formulations. One of them is the use of the excimer curing technology in order to create a micro folded surface combining dead matte with excellent scratch, polishing and abrasion resistance amongst other attributes. All of this without the use of matting agents. This has led allnex to invest into an Excimer pilot line, enabling screening and fine tuning of resins to come to a commercial offering for excimer curable dead matte formulations. In this webinar we will introduce the excimer concept, discuss the advantages and challenges and guide you through resin selection to achieve dead matte surfaces exerting other performance attributes such as bio-based content, weatherability, scratch resistance, easy-to-clean and many more. Additionally, we will introduce other UV\/EB curable matting concepts and display our UV\/EB curable resin offering for low gloss systems.<\/p>\n
