Following a trend that is happening right now \u2013 where typical development times, even when things go perfectly to plan is around one year \u2013 means that concept will be old, with many \u2018me-too\u2019 competing products, by the time you could launch.<\/p>\n<p>So, how do you spot the trends and be one of the first to market with a new concept?<\/p>\n<p>There are several sources you can use to predict what will be popular amongst consumers a few months in advance, so let\u2019s review the best\u2026<\/p>\n<h3>Cosmetic trend spotting #1: Market research reports<\/h3>\n<p>Obtaining cosmetic market research reports on cosmetic industry trends from leading sources like Mintel or Euromonitor is one of the best starting points. While you can pay for their very detailed, market-specific reports, they also put out regular white papers throughout the year that identifies consumer trends in general. Visit their websites and join their database to be notified of these white papers and take a look around their sites at what extra information you can purchase, specific to your region, and specific to the cosmetic industry.<\/p>\n<p>When you are reviewing their reports (both paid and free), pay particular attention to the section of their reports that focuses on future insights \u2013 if you follow the consumer thinking of what they are doing right now, and consider the future insights provided, you will be able to connect the dots to where consumers are likely to head next.<\/p>\n<h3>Cosmetic trend spotting #2: Trade shows, exhibitions and conferences<\/h3>\n<p>Cosmetic exhibitions, trade shows and conferences are undoubtedly one of my favorite sources of cosmetic trend spotting. Not only do you get to speak with raw material suppliers directly about their latest launches (which could be an insight into an emerging cosmetic trend in itself), global exhibitions such as in-cosmetics have specific \u2018innovation\u2019 and \u2018spotlight on\u2019 zones that showcase the latest launches that have been developed to meet cosmetic industry and consumer demands. Just strolling through their zones can give you a great insight as to what the suppliers are launching and in which direction consumer demand is driving raw material supplier research and development.<\/p>\n<p>Then have a chat with the cosmetic ingredient suppliers direct and order your samples to start your next trend-setting developments straight away!<\/p>\n<h3>Cosmetic trend spotting #3: Fashion magazines and celebrity style<\/h3>\n<p>Celebrities are always followed by fans \u2013 and their style has a big impact on what people want to wear, as well as hairstyles and makeup. Sure, you might see celebrities in glossy ads with the latest cosmetic products (paid for handsomely, of course), but you will also get great insight as to upcoming trends by seeing them out and about, casually and at events. Take particular note of the colors they wear, the overall genre of style, and of course their make-up, jewelry and hair colors and cuts.<\/p>\n<p>Then think: how could my brand support this style? What products in my range fit this celebrity icon and their style? Think ahead in this way, and act quickly with a fast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Formulations\/38226\/Cosmetics\/Formulation?st=31&amp;so=bt&amp;sl=148782472&amp;utm_source=KnowledgeCenter&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=Cosmetic+Trends+&amp;utm_term=2023PCC&amp;utm_content=Carli\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">formulation base<\/a>, to launch your product rapidly in response.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, it\u2019s only relevant for celebrities who your target market follows, but it will tell you what those same consumers will generally find appealing for their future purchases.<\/p>\n<h3>Cosmetic trend spotting #4: The socials and influencers<\/h3>\n<p>If your target market is the millennials (also referred to as Gen-Y) or younger, then keep up with the latest socials and influencers for insight into current and potential future trends. We\u2019ve already seen a huge rise in the use of natural extracts, superfoods and cosmetic products to address athleisure needs, and these are just three items from these huge market sectors! Take a look at the latest food fads as well as workout routines and even athletic fashion, and think: how can my products tag onto these concepts?
