That said, I\u2019ll go ahead anyway and try to foretell some of the trends we will see in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/Coatings?utm_source=Knowledge+Center&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=Trends_2024&amp;utm_term=2023PC&amp;utm_content=Kesler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coatings<\/a> for 2024.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Artificial Intelligence<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>There is a lot of discussion in the media centered on the effects of AI in aspects of daily life from education to job displacement. Much debate over how to regulate AI or it\u2019s even possible, is in the news. The recent leadership shake up at Open AI (the developer of ChatGTP) illustrates the fast-moving world of AI today. The Chairperson was removed from the board, went to work at investor\/competitor Microsoft, and was reinstated in only five days. After making my own outline for this article, I decided to consult ChatGPT about what might lie ahead for our industry.<\/p>\n<p>Below in quotes is ChatGPT\u2019s answer to my query about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/Coatings?utm_source=Knowledge+Center&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=Trends_2024&amp;utm_term=2023PC&amp;utm_content=Kesler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coatings<\/a> trends for 2024, \u201cWhat are the trends for 2024 for paint and coatings\u201d. There are many possible uses for artificial intelligence in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/Coatings?utm_source=Knowledge+Center&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=Trends_2024&amp;utm_term=2023PC&amp;utm_content=Kesler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coatings<\/a> including formulation development, performance testing, and application optimization. Dr. Erik Sapper at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo has been researching the use of AI in coatings and he feels it has its\u2019 place but is not going to replace the formulator anytime soon. There are countless ways coatings can be \u201csmart\u201d many of which we haven\u2019t even conceived yet. The possibilities are limitless, from a self-healing coating made from plant based raw materials to a biocide free architectural paint whose properties have been optimized through the use of\u00a0 an AI driven product development process.
