California\u2019s AC Future<\/a> used the CES 2025 show in Las Vegas to roll out the latest in its series of sustainable mobile home solutions. The Irvine, California-based firm said it collaborated with legendary Italian design house and supercar maker Pininfarina to develop three models of innovative smart homes that incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) and focus on affordability, flexibility and sustainability.<\/p>\n

The product lineup includes:<\/p>\n

* AI-THu<\/strong>: A stationary, expandable smart home featuring 400 square feet of adaptable living space and a 40-square-foot patio. With a base price of $98,000, it\u2019s designed for both on- and off-grid living, and includes solar panels, energy storage, a water generator, and high-end appliances.<\/p>\n

Expandable on all four sides using its patented technology, it offers up to 400 square feet of living space and starts at a base price of $138,000. The trailer is equipped with advanced AI systems and sustainable energy solutions.<\/p>\n

Adopting aerospace materials\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Company officials did not offer many specifics about the materials<\/a> used in the AI Transformer Home (AI-TH) lineup, though Chief Operation Officer Arthur Jason Galarza, a former Tesla official, offered some insights on these choices in an interview on the company\u2019s CES booth. He says they inherited various polymers from those used in aerospace programs, including honeycomb materials, beta matrix composites, carbon fiber, fiberglass, lightweight aluminum alloys, and some high-temperature structural polymers.<\/p>\n

AC Future, founded in 2023, says it aims \u201cto redefine mobile and sustainable living\u201d with these products while also addressing the affordable housing crisis \u201cby offering flexible, eco-friendly housing solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Highly sustainable <\/strong><\/p>\n

In addition to expanding walls that enhance the living space, the vehicle is equipped with solar panels<\/a> that capture and convert sunlight into electricity, generating +25kWh, and an atmospheric water generator system that converts moisture from the air into ambient clean water daily. The company says this gives the AI-TH unparalleled flexibility for off-the-grid living and adapts to the specific needs of the user. The electricity generated by the AI-TH can be used to charge other vehicles and devices.<\/p>\n

Paolo Trevisan, Pininfarina\u2019s senior vice president of design, added: “By addressing the evolving needs of modern living, these projects exemplify our vision of creating adaptable, efficient, and visually appealing environmental living solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Garnering significant attention <\/strong><\/p>\n

At CES 2025 AC Future added two more awards to its growing trophy case. Digital publication CNET<\/em>\u00a0named the AI Transformer Home one of the \u201cMost Innovative New Products\u201d and Canada’s\u00a0CBC<\/em> gave it a \u201cTop Tech of CES\u201d award. This follows other recent accolades, including a 2024 Good Design Award from the Chicago Museum of Architecture and Design and an Innovation by Design Honorable Mention from\u00a0Fast Company<\/em>.<\/p>\n

AC Future says all of its products will be made in the U.S., and will include embedded AI hardware and software. Galarza said on Feb 18 that the firm was in the midst of meeting with potential investors in Silicon Valley.<\/p>\n

AC Future, which is looking for supplier partners, is targeting its first deliveries for the fourth quarter of 2026.<\/p>\n

While with Crain Communications Inc., he oversaw the relaunch of the 100-year-old European Rubber Journal in London and helped to start Urethanes Technology magazine there. \u00a0In 1988 Bob returned to Akron, Ohio, to serve as founding editor of Plastics News, an award-winning, weekly business newspaper. In 2005 he oversaw the editorial launch of the bilingual (Chinese and English) PN China e-newsletter and website. For more than a decade at PN he also held the titles of associate publisher, editorial director and conference director, and most recently served as business development director. A long-time affiliate member of the Industrial Designers Society of America, Bob has organized numerous design-focused events, earned a Personal Recognition Award from IDSA in 2013, and constantly strives to help bridge the gap between the design and manufacturing communities.
