\"WeightLossClaims\"<\/a>Mintel’s<\/a> report on Formulating for Health and Wellness includes ingredients and new products that have recently launched to help spark new ideas for your formulations (EU: Mintel<\/a>). While the report includes information on several health and wellness topics, I’ve chosen to briefly discuss the weight control section. Make sure to take a look at the full report and listen to the webinar for more information.<\/p>\n

With slimming claims as a top global trend for health and wellness communication, and obesity a struggle for many populations, it is clear that consumers are looking for solutions for weight control. Historic weight loss innovation was primarily based on low sugar or low fat formulas. However, the opportunity to increase satiety, by using ingredients like protein and fiber, will enable consumers to eat fewer calories while still feeling full.<\/p>\n

One mechanism thought to create satiety, or the feeling of fullness, is linked to increased protein<\/a> consumption (EU: protein<\/a>). In Mintel’s report, milk protein<\/a> is mentioned as an ingredient that is trending upward to substantiate weight control claims globally (EU: milk protein<\/a>). Developers in the dairy category have seen success using milk proteins to increase overall protein content of foods. In addition to dairy protein, recent research shows a potential link to dairy fat and satiety. Initial study results show evidence that individuals who consume full fat dairy products weigh less than those who consume low fat dairy products.<\/p>\n
