These high-stress applications require a low coefficient of friction (COF), a property that has traditionally been supplied by PTFE additives. However, PTFE additives can:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u2022 Negatively impact the mechanical properties of the material<br \/>\n\u2022 Increase the density of the material<br \/>\n\u2022 Pose a potential toxicity risk<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, traditional PA materials \u2013 particularly glass-filled compounds \u2013 are known for processability issues, particularly higher extruder torque and reduced throughput. However, Dow Corning now offers two advanced silicone additives that solve these performance and processing issues for extruded and injection molded PA:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u2022<a href=\"https:\/\/materials.ulprospector.com\/Profile.aspx?I=34&amp;E=253085\" target=\"_blank\"> Dow Corning\u00ae 31-441 Additive<\/a> is a solid silicone polymer that excels at improving productivity through extrusion efficiency by decreasing screw torque and reducing internal melt temperatures. It delivers slip performance at lower loadings than PTFE, so mechanical properties are maintained.<br \/>\n\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/materials.ulprospector.com\/Profile.aspx?I=34&amp;E=301507#DV_DS\">Dow Corning\u00ae HMB-1103 Masterbatch<\/a> for PA systems is the company\u2019s best-in-class tribology modifier for highly demanding applications that require a long-term reduction of COF and wear resistance. It is also effective at lower loadings than PTFE.<\/p>\n<p>This webinar will describe the challenges of optimizing the properties and processing of PA resins and compounds used in moving parts and the advantages of new-generation silicone additives.
