Whether or not you are currently removing trace materials from your products or are exploring this\u00a0possibility as a medical device manufacturer, doing so\u00a0will soon be standard practice.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent revision of RoHS compliance, RoHS Recast, introduced a broader definition to include any device that uses electrical currents or electromagnetic fields to accomplish a function. In their\u00a0article, Mark Leimbeck and\u00a0Anwen Evans provide an <a href=\"http:\/\/industries.ul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/02\/Impact-of-RoHS2-Article-110713.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">overview of the directive<\/a>, while Geoffrey Bock provides an\u00a0an extensive (although not complete) list of<a href=\"http:\/\/medicaldesign.com\/blog\/will-us-medical-device-industry-embrace-rohs\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0devices that may be impacted.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>With a little over 60 days left before the effective date, wiring and cable manufacturer Northwire has outlined\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pr.com\/press-release\/556063\" target=\"_blank\">10 critical requirements to ensure CE-mark compliance<\/a>. As of July 22, 2014, the provisions of RoHS 2 will apply to\u00a0Category 8, medical devices, and Category 9, monitoring and control instruments. Originally published in 2011, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/environment\/waste\/rohs_eee\/\" target=\"_blank\">RoHS Recast Directive<\/a>\u00a0is a multi-phase directive that includes further medical and monitoring devices that are impacted at a later date.<\/p>\n<p>Prospector\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ides.com\/landingpages\/Property_Search.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Property Search\u00a0<\/a>allows you to select materials on key design properties, including RoHS Compliance.
