This article takes a deeper look into this category and explores the technologies that underlie these compositions.<\/p>\n<p>These products have been growing in popularity in recent years contributing, for example, to the double digit growth in the prestige women\u2019s skincare market in the UK.<sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Facial oils can be based on a single oil, but are more commonly formulated with blends of oils that are either predominantly or exclusively plant based. Compositions can be simple blends of botanical oils or more complex systems that combine these oils with carrier fluids, emollients and sunscreens.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the more popular plant oils (fragrant and non-fragrant) used in these formulations are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Product\/search?k=olive+oil&amp;st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Olive oil<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Product\/search?k=Jojoba+seed+oil&amp;st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Jojoba seed oil<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Product\/search?k=argan+oil&amp;st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Argan oil<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Product\/search?k=meadowfoam+seed+oil&amp;st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Meadowfoam seed oil<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Product\/search?k=rose+oil&amp;st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Rose oil<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Facial oils are used in many categories including Cleansers, Shave Oils and Anti-aging. However, there has been a notable surge in their use as Moisturizers.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the introduction of the modern moisturizer, earlier generations of women derived skincare benefits for themselves and their children from the use of pure plants oils, e.g. coconut and argan oils.<\/p>\n<p>Facial oils used as facial moisturizers might seem counterintuitive, given skincare trends of recent years when \u2018oil-free\u2019 products were heavily promoted. The appeal to the modern consumer is likely fueled by the general interest in all things natural, since plant oils are typically used and spotlighted in these products.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to traditional skincare benefits, the facial oil user is often in search of a \u201chealthy looking glow\u201d or \u201cdewy\u201d skin. When Helene-Curtis was purchased by industry giant Unilever in 1996, Priscilla was promoted to Senior Product Development Manager. She had the privilege of working with global teams to develop and launch products both domestically and worldwide for many popular brands, including Dove and Suave. Concurrent to her work at Prospector, Priscilla is a Product Development Chemist with Bria Research Labs. She is actively involved in formulating for a diverse array of clients. While she mostly formulates personal care and cosmetics products, she has also had the opportunity to work on projects for the household, industrial and institutional cleaners industry. Priscilla was born and raised in Trinidad, West Indies, but she considers Chicago her adopted hometown.
