Keeping with this goal, we\u2019re partnering with the Institute of Personal Care Science (IPCS) to deliver video content developed with cosmetic formulators in mind.<\/p>\n<p>Video host Belinda Carli is the Director of IPCS, which offers the Internationally Recognised Training for Cosmetic Formulation and Regulatory Affairs. She holds a Bachelor of Natural Therapies, Diploma of Cosmetic Science and Certificate in Training and Assessment. She has written five books on Cosmetic Formulation from Beginners through Advanced levels as well as Organic and Colour Cosmetic Formulations and Brand Management.<\/p>\n<p>Belinda provides training to all levels of industry, both on-site and online, and has developed thousands of personal care formulations and document dossiers over the years. Her videos are informative, instructional, and relevant to challenges formulators face every day. We are pleased to add her to our team of experts.<\/p>\n<p>For the first video, Belinda focuses on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/search?k=natural+solubilizer&amp;st=31\" target=\"_blank\">natural solubiliser<\/a> and essential oil combinations used in personal care products, highlighting\u00a0some of her favorites, as well demonstrating how to achieve product stability.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kNbgHvi_lqM\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h4>Highlights:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Natural solubilisers often don\u2019t perform as well as standard polysorbates, which represent the more-typically used solubilisers in the industry.<\/li>\n<li>Belinda tested several solutions under stressful conditions, in order to compare them to the commercial synthetic\/partially synthetic solubilisers often used in the industry.<\/li>\n<li>In her tests, Belinda used a 5% input of solubiliser, .8% various essential oils, plus .2% natural Vitamin E and an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Product\/search?k=Antioxidants&amp;sug=1&amp;st=31\" target=\"_blank\">antioxidant<\/a>, then conducted three freeze-thaw cycles.\n<ul>\n<li>Solubilisers used in the video test:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/search?k=Polysorbate+20&amp;st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Polysorbate 20<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Detail\/1432\/46862\/ORAMIX-CG110?st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Oramix CG110<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Detail\/75\/221518\/Lamesoft-OD?st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Lamesoft OD<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Detail\/12615\/357159\/Natisol?st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Natisol<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Detail\/817\/235916\/Natpure-Sol?st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Natpure Sol<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Essential oils used:\n<ul>\n<li>Orange<\/li>\n<li>Peppermint<\/li>\n<li>Geranium<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Preservatives used:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Detail\/2518\/81370\/euxyl-K-712?st=31\" target=\"_blank\">euxyl<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> K 712<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulprospector.com\/en\/na\/PersonalCare\/Detail\/761\/213956\/Geogard-ECT?st=31\" target=\"_blank\">Geogard<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> ECT<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Using an antioxidant is essential when formulating with essential oils.<\/li>\n<li>Because of the different lipid profiles, solubilisers will or will not work as effectively with certain essential oils.<\/li>\n<li>You can tell how stable your solubilised mix will be by conducting some freeze-thaw cycles.<\/li>\n<li>Signs of instability: sediment at the bottom, fog\/cloudiness, or a floating lipid or powdery layer at the top\n<ul>\n<li>To resolve instability, you can increase your solubiliser or decrease essential oils.<\/li>\n<li>Even if a solution is cloudy, that might not mean it\u2019s unstable if there\u2019s no residue.<\/li>\n<li>A stable solubilised solution doesn\u2019t have to be clear, but a lot of consumers consider that a mark of quality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019re looking for a clear solution, you may need to test various solubilisers.<\/li>\n<li>No one solubiliser is going to fit every application. Different essential oils will impact the performance of the solubiliser.\n<ul>\n<li>There can be a dramatic difference in the appearance of the end product with different essential oils.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Remember that your selection of a natural solubiliser will depend on your company\u2019s philosophy, certifier requirements, and essential oils used.<\/li>\n<li>Always prepare lab samples to check suitability for your application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here in the UL Prospector Knowledge Center, we strive to offer a valuable insights and viewpoints, from a variety of industry experts.
