Fluid-applied reflective roof coatings are used across the US to decrease the temperature of roofs and ultimately save building owners on cooling cost. \u00a0Before applying a white roof coating, asphaltic materials are often used to repair and protect the roof. \u00a0Subsequently, labile asphaltic oils can bleed through the white coating, causing brown and orange stains, and thus darken the coating surface. \u00a0Depending on their severity and extent, the stains cause issues that can range from simply an unsightly roof to a severe reduction in the reflectivity, and thus the energy efficiency of the roof coating. \u00a0This phenomenon is observed in both acrylic and silicone roof coating systems where expensive and difficult to use two part epoxy primers are required to prevent it.<\/p>\n

EPS is well known in the coatings industry for the bleed blocking technology it has incorporated into acrylic latexes. This same bleed blocking technology has now been incorporated into EPS 2719, a resin specially designed for use in reflective roof coatings over asphaltic substrates. \u00a0EPS 2719 can be used as a base coat under both acrylic and silicone topcoats or alone as a complete base coat\/top coat system to maintain the whitest roofs in the market.<\/p>\n
