Powder Injection Molding (PIM) is a method of manufacturing small, high-precision metal and ceramic parts by injection molding metal or ceramic powder.
Polyoxymethylene (POM) is a promising binder ingredient that is used for catalytic de-binding systems due to its low residue formation. Furthermore, since the volatilization temperature of POM is lower than that of polyolefin resins, POM is also suitable for thermal de-binding system.
However, it is difficult to use POM as a component of thermal binders because of its poor miscibility of other materials and high reactivity with inorganic powders, respectively.
Asahi Kasei have developed a new binder, TENAC™-P PT120, which includes POM and can be used for thermal de-binding system.
TENAC™-P PT120 will provide key benefits such as
・All in one binder - Suitable for thermal de-binding MIM.
・Minimal voids – Excellent strength of sintered body and consistent production of high-quality products with minimal variation.
・Excellent fluidity - Suitable for intricate metal products.
・Easy to make feedstock - Just simply mixing with metals.
In this seminar, we would like to discuss some of characteristics such as reduced odor in kneading process, fluidity of feedstock, and reduced voids in sintered body.
