The Regulatory Shift
As the EU prepares to implement regulatory controls around cosmetic ingredients , formulators are under increasing pressure to find compliant alternatives, to replace not only silicone oils, but also other ingredients that may come under scrutiny for their environmental impact and bio accumulative properties. At the same time, formulators cannot afford to compromise on performance or consumer expectations.[1] [REF Regulation - EU - 2024/1328 - EN - EUR-Lex]
The Real Challenge: More Than Just Compliance
An immediate regulatory change is the ban on silicones in June 2026. Replacing silicones isn’t just about meeting regulations, it’s about maintaining the sensory experience, functionality, and versatility that consumers associate with high-quality personal care products.
The Solution: Shell Silk Alkane
This webinar introduces Shell Silk Alkane, a readily biodegradable[2], multifunctional emollient designed to help formulators transition away from silicones and other synthetic emollients without compromising on product quality.
Versatility in Action: One Ingredient, Many Replacements
Shell Silk Alkane can replace or complement a wide range of commonly used ingredients, including:
- Silicone oils(D4, D5, D6)
- Hydrocarbon-based emollients(e.g., isohexadecane)
- Esters(e.g., C12-15 alkyl benzoate)
What You’ll See in the Webinar
We’ll explore Shell Silk Alkane’s functional performance on both skin and hair, including:
- Increased moisturizing effect
- Enhanced skin barrier protection
- Anti- frizz and anti-static effects
- Reduced hair breakage
- Reduction in split ends
You’ll also see how it compares to traditional silicone oils and other emollients, supported by data and formulation insights.
